Paul told them they need to live by the Spirit – following God’s way
Paul says that if we live by the Spirit, we will be different from those that live by the world
If we live by the Spirit, we will have different attitudes and actions
The Bible calls these the fruit of the Spirit. If you see a tree and someone tells you it is a fruit tree, how do you know what kind it is? By the fruit you see on it. It’s the same with our lives. How do people know we are a Christian? By our attitudes and our actions. By the fruit we bear.
Here is what Paul said is the fruit of the spirit:
First 3 = feelings:
Love
Joy
Peace – feel happy and know things are ok
Then there are actions towards others:
Patience – wait calmly without complaining
Kindness – helping and loving others
Gentleness – thoughtful, calm, considerate
And then our inner values:
Goodness – beautiful
Faithfulness – reliable, trustworthy, loyal
Self Control – power over one’s own actions
The Fruit of the Spirit Song
The Fruit of the Spirit's not a watermelon
The Fruit of the Spirit's not a watermelon
If you want to be a watermelon
You might as well hear it.
You can't be a Fruit of the Spirit.
'Cause the Fruit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness,
Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness,
Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.
